The Big Book and the The 12 step promises of alcoholics anonymous
So what exactly does the big book of Alcoholics Anonymous say about addiction recovery? Well, it tells you that if you work their system of recovery, you are going to heal your addiction problems. It is either absolute madness, or one of the most remarkable promises that one could make. In my experience, since 1997, I can say that the latter is true. It is oddly amazing that the program actually works. Developed in 1930, it has helped millions recover. It is super simple. It is comprised only of 12 simple steps that can be done, for the first time, in four hours or so. It is also a program that can be repeated for a lifetime. The 12 step promises of alcoholics anonymous is something worth taking a second look at, if you may have overlooked it in the past.
Although it is a simple program of addiction recovery, it does contain a ton of wisdom. People like Carl Jung were involved in its development. It was designed to foil the mind out of unhealthy habits. Not an easy feat at all. It was designed as a system that would allow people to go above themselves, or in other words transcend their own thinking. Get into a program is our suggestion. Start today, and stop bloody staying stuck! It is not worth living a low quality life. You can and will recover, if you follow the steps, or a similar system of recovery. We offer all of them.
So this is the original wording about the 12 step promises of alcoholics anonymous that the Big Book offers us. Read it carefully and consider each line. We will not regret the past nor wish to shut the door on it. We will comprehend the word serenity and we will know peace. No matter how far down the scale we have gone, we will see how our experience can benefit others. That feeling of uselessness and self-pity will disappear. We will lose interest in selfish things and gain interest in our fellows. Self-seeking will slip away. Our whole attitude and outlook upon life will change. Fear of people and of economic insecurity will leave us.
We will intuitively know how to handle situations which used to baffle us. We will suddenly realize that God is doing for us what we could not do for ourselves. Are these extravagant promises? We think not. They are being fulfilled among us, sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly. They will always materialize if we work for them ” – From the 12 step promises of alcoholics anonymous
